Boat Coffins

Wuyishan is also the originating place for the Coffin-Suspending Burial Custom, a unique burial system widely found in south China and beyond. The boat Coffins found in the crevices high up on the cliffs in Wuyishan have intrigued spectators and inspired all sorts of imaginations and speculations throughout history, until modem technology determines them as dating back to more than 3,800 years ago, I.e. late Shang and early Zhou Dynasties. This is an important heritage from the ancient Min ethnic people that was host of this area, and stands testimony to a long lost ancient civilization.
